CMIS
CM Information Specialists (CMIS) is a medical health records information technology company offering a variety of services to hospitals, clinics and other medical facilities. CMIS provides the information technology and people needed to respond to requests for medical information. We serve nearly 200 facilities in Minnesota, North and South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Bonnie Coffey founded the company (fka as CopyMed) in 1986, and is Chief Executive Officer. Ron Raymond, Chief Operating Officer, joined CMIS in 2003 and Rick Hughes, Chief Financial Officer, joined the company in 2008. The company employs 91 people.
Bonnie J. Coffey

Ms. Coffey has over twenty-three years experience in the health information management field. As a charter member of the Association of Health Information Outsourcing Services (AHIOS), and now as president of the organization, Ms. Coffey sees the role of president to clearly communicate why expertise in the area of release of medical information is needed, and why outsourcing companies fill this need. Since the inception of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), patients have become keenly aware of their health information and want to be assured of its safety and security.
Ms. Coffey started CM Information Specialists (formerly CopyMed Inc.) in 1986 and currently serves as president and CEO. CM Information Specialists provides outsourcing services in release of medical information, temporary help and consulting to health information management departments. Attain Document Services, also started by Ms. Coffey, provides assistance in getting records of any type, digitizing, transmitting and storing records for its growing customer base. Over 250 companies receive record assistance from CMIS and Attain.
Ms. Coffey has been instrumental in the creation of the Certified Release of Information Specialist designation, earned by individuals demonstrating their competence in the release and security of protected health information. Ms. Coffey has been active in the Minnesota Health Information Management Association and currently serves on the Legal Resources Committee and Vendor Alliance Committee. Ms. Coffey holds a BS degree in education from Moorhead State University. With this focus in education, Ms. Coffey provides learning opportunities for organizations interested in understanding the complexities of medical information. Ms. Coffey is a member of the American and Minnesota Health Information Management Associations.

Ron Raymond 
Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Since 2003, Mr. Raymond has played a critical, senior and strategic management role at CM Information Specialists. As chief operating officer, he oversees strategic planning, day-to-day operations, marketing, and technology. He provides leadership for new marketing and technology initiatives. During his tenure at CMIS revenues increased by over 40 percent.
Prior to joining CM Information Specialists, Mr. Raymond provided CFO and operations management to a variety of firms specializing in engineering and medical equipment manufacturing. While serving at these firms, he developed key partnerships with major clients that helped increase business revenues from $10 to $30 million.
Mr. Raymond holds an MBA in Finance, Marketing and Strategic Planning from the University of Saint Thomas. He holds a B.S. in Marketing and Finance from the University of Wisconsin at River Falls. He is also a member of WHIMA (Wisconsin Health Information Management Association) as well as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Wisconsin system.

Rick served as a strategic planning consultant for CMIS for 18 months before joining the company as CFO in 2008. Rick’s background includes:

As CFO of Apartment Search, Rick created the infrastructure to support company’s growth from a handful of Minnesota offices to a nationwide network of 60 locations. After completing company sale to LA Times newspaper, Rick consulted for several small and medium-sized e-commerce, healthcare, and business service clients. Consulting expertise includes strategic planning, forecasting, analysis, acquisitions and divestitures.
