Acronyms Work
In our society we use acronyms to abbreviate common phrases. NATO (pronounced naa’ to) is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. SQL is Structured Query Language. ROI is Return On Investment or in our circles, Release of Information. These acronyms assist us in remembering phrases and words. We refer to the acronym for ease in communication and to remember the words they stand for.
The importance of remembering the components of a valid authorization can be summarized in an acronym. At one of our recent manager meetings, Kim Kallman was given the task to create an acronym to help our ROI Specialists remember each component of a valid authorization. Here is what Kim created:
P urpose of the request
R equester
I identification of patient
D data to be released Make this acronym a part of each request
E expiration date you complete to have PRIDE IN OUR
Services. As ROI Specialists, knowing
N ature of the request the components of a valid authorization
R eleasing party will give you PRIDE iN ouR Services
S ignature
P R I D E iN ouR Services
If you remember each component of a valid authorization, the results will be a the acceptance of a valid request reflecting the PRIDE iN ouR Services.
You’ll be getting more information from your supervisor about PRIDE iN ouR Services at your next QQR!
Calling all creative types: Now that we have an acronym for one of the most important components of the job of an ROI Specialist, create a logo incorporating all the letters or the phrase “PRIDE iN ouR Services” and you will receive a $150.00 VISA Gift Card. Please send all designs to Bonnie Coffey at bcoffey@cminfospec.com by November 3, 2008. You’ll be included in the next Coffey Break with your design and picture. Good Luck!
