A: First, CMIS is a professional release of information service. We don’t just copy records. We provide the assistance to keep medical information confidential even when copies of a patient’s medical records are made and sent or faxed to another requester. We know how to respond to the different requests for medical records.

Q: If the person assigned from CMIS to my HIM department misses work, what happens to the requests for records? Who will work for the assigned health document specialist?

A: All of our hospitals and clinics have a manager and supervisor assigned from CMIS. In the event that the regular CMIS health document specialist cannot make it to work in your HIM department, CMIS will send a qualified health document specialist to your HIM department. The site instructions each manager gathers assists us in this process.
